Canadian startup tests woody blankets to slow permafrost erosion

PermaC tested wood-and-fibre blankets on an eroding permafrost slope in Canada’s Northwest Territories, Nature reports. The company says the covered edge did not measurably retreat during one summer, while an uncovered edge retreated five metres. Results have not been released, and avoided carbon emissions remain estimates; broader effectiveness is unproven.
