Flow fluctuations help experimental soft valves close at lower pressure

via Phys.org·18h ago

Researchers studying pig heart valves and flexible models found that flow fluctuations could trigger synthetic-valve closure at roughly one-tenth the pressure needed under steady flow, Phys.org reports. Controlled pulses allowed closure on demand. The laboratory finding suggests a design principle; medical-device performance and patient benefits have not been demonstrated.
