Light-focusing experiment reveals hidden correlations in scattering materials

via Phys.org·13h ago

Researchers used optical experiments and simulations to show that fluctuations in focused light can reveal correlations inside strongly scattering materials, Saint Louis University reports through Phys.org. Average focusing strength agreed with standard theory, but variations were several times larger in some conditions. The work provides a laboratory probe of wave transport; practical imaging applications remain prospective.
