More mating calls can overwhelm female gray tree frogs, study finds

A laboratory study of 60 female gray tree frogs found that more competing calls made them less likely to choose a preferred mating call, study coauthor Claire Hemingway writes through Phys.org. The calls did not overlap, isolating choice overload from sound masking. Effects on actual mating in wild choruses remain untested.
